Dogs have a scent receptor (Jacobson's Organ) on the roof of their mouths that goes straight to the brain so processes scent information at top speed. So they lick up the pee, roll it over the JO and get a mental printout all about the other dog.

Jul 30, 2010 · This guy who owns a corner unit has a stop sign and electrical/telephone boxes around his lawn. Twice has he complained to me that my dog is not allowed to pee around his house even though the poles and stuff are own by the city. He says he works for the city and this is not permitted. I ignored him the second time he tells me this.
Aug 30, 2019 · The dogs aren't in the backyard all the time. Most of their time is spent in the house but get regular potty breaks and playtime outside. Basically, it's almost a full reno each fall between the urine spots and the worst damage which comes from the traffic. It's one of those things you have to be willing to deal with when you have dogs.
